I met Dowie in a bar in Belfast, he had just taken the Job at Oldham, he was alright.. a bit hyper but not flash, also met him a few years later at Copers Cope when he was managing Palace. He came out and chatted to the academy players parents.

Someone I know worked under him at Charlton and said he micro managed, was a nightmare to work for

Before that Stockport game Dowie had actually scored twice against Forest in the previous round in Oct 96.
As Northern said at the time of the Stockport game he hadn’t scored a league goal for NINE months ... 2 against Man City in March.
In fact he never scored in the league again and was involved in 41 (FORTY ONE) league matches without a goal before leaving in Jan 1998.

Of course he was then involved in our greatest swap. Him & Keith Rowland in part exchange for Trevor Sinclair

NS...that's what I thought as well...for that stage in a season he must've broken some kind of record for the only striker in history to be on -1 ?

Didn't redknapp say something re radiucioiu along the lines of "we found out he was in Harvey nicholls this time last year he probably had to queue up to get a loaf of bread "
He was playing for ac Milan at the time apparently!

How Dare You!

My memory goes back as far as the early 80's.

I'm only 48 which is getting on but compared to the average age of this forum still a whipper-snapper.

Dowie was poor as a footballer...smart brain but rubbish feet

Re: Stockport 18th December 1996......
Redknapp told Raducioui he wasn't in the match squad and not to travel.

Raddy, having been given the night off, went shopping with his Missus. Someone got injured and Redknapp scrambled around trying to find a replacement.

Harry located him in Harvey Nicks, too late to get to the coach on time. H then span the story to reflect badly on Raducioui instead of himself. Like most Harry stories, it was quite funny and was widely believed.

It clearly wasn't believed by Iain Dowie who was most non-committal when asked about it on TS yesterday. He did reveal that 'Raddy was a great bloke' though.

Redknapp is a massive liar and a spiteful cunt. I find it difficult to understand why any West Ham fan believes a single word he says.

The 1996 game was a replay.

I remember Ian Bishop said in an interview after the first game he was “disappointed” with some of the Stockport players attitudes, after comments made by them in the Players Lounge. How they were a little too confident for a Division Three team and needed to show more respect.

I’m not sure if Ian Bishop commented after the replay.

Within a month we also lost to Wrexham, of Division Two in the 3rd of the FA Cup.

Some of Harry Redkanpp’s team were completely gutless

Wasn't this also the game that Florin Răducioiu didn't turn up for the coach and the rumour started that he and his Mrs were out shopping at Harvey Nichols?!

The look of utter bewilderment on Dowie's face after he slams it home is something I'll never forget.

He has never looked so ugly

It's Ludo's glare at Dowie after the ball has sailed past him into the top corner that I always remember. Looked like he was about to rip his fucking head off, which is how most of us felt!

They would have owned our cockney asses on any pitch that night.

The home 3-0?.. If you have a six goal advantage it isn't surprising really is it.

we also folded against Luton Town in similar circumstances.. So you may have a point and I'm chatting shite as per

I was at that Oldham match, and their plastic pitch helped them no end. Especially in the extremely wet conditions, the ball behaved in very odd way.

All demonstrated by our (insufficiently emphatic) victory in the second leg.

Its hilarious now..
at the time most were more perplexed than angry.
Classic WHU Hall of shamer
The ultimate for me though was Oldham Pathetic on the plastic pitch in the League Cup semi - final first leg.

After that Stockport game Dowie didn’t appear at all for 2 months. Surprised?
His next appearance was late Feb as a sub in the 4-3 night game v Spurs (Hartson Kitson Dicks 2)

Re: Stockport 18th December 1996......
Wasn’t the rumour that he just forgot what he was doing. Saw the ball and instinct set in and he rammed it home. A proper strikers technique and header into corner.
